The Jenner Centre – DD9 Connections Issue No 31
We’re keeping busy at the Jenner Centre with the various groups gaining in popularity. Whatever the reason for coming together there’s always plenty of blethering. In fact there’s a clear theme running through all that the Jenner Centre offers; an opportunity to talk about anything and everything, to meet people who listen without judging, and who care.
More folk are coming for the ChitChat with Coffee on Monday mornings and although we initially envisaged several tables with people at each one, we now just add on another table so that everyone can sit together. There’s no risk of running out of things to talk about – everything from the weather to world affairs and lots in between.
Other sessions which are attracting more people are the three crafts groups while ten or more folk enjoy the seated exercise. Jean brings different music each week and we find ourselves singing along. Imagine some folk not liking the Beatles!
One apprehensive person who came to the Cancer Support Group said they had come looking for support and that’s exactly what they received. The Dementia Carers support group also brings in people looking for support; the fact that they keep coming every month speaks volumes. What a difference this support makes to lives.
We’ve also had a session with people from Citizens Advice “Energy Best Deal” which was well attended and much appreciated. CAB are still hoping to hold monthly or even fortnightly sessions once they have more volunteers.. AbilityNet continues to offer monthly sessions helping people with all sorts the digital issues.
CPR training. A session has been booked for Friday 27th March at 2pm. Contact us to book a place.
A reminder that we hold the Community Diary where you can add your upcoming events or check what else is arranged so that events don’t clash. It was thought by several to be a good idea but it hasn’t really caught on. Feel free to come in and check the diary or enter something of your own.
AndysManClub is a charity supporting men’s mental health “It’s OK to Talk”. They are hoping soon to hold their weekly sessions at the Jenner Centre.
Callum Troup, Locality Development Worker, will no longer be based at the Jenner Centre on Mondays but will always be available for you to make appointment with him.
