The Jenner Centre – DD9 Connections Issue No 30
Jenner Centre
A peaceful and healthy New Year to you all.
We continue to provide all our usual services with a steady flow of visitors.
VAA’s Callum Troup is changing his sessions with us to alternate Mondays – commencing 19th January. The other Mondays he will be based at the Salvation Army where they are starting a Well Bean Cafe. A Well Bean Cafe is primarily focused on mental health and well-being. It provides listening support and signposting to other services.
Digital Skills will be back monthly until April. They begin on Thursday 22nd January from 10am -12 noon. This was well received last year and will help unlock all those mysteries and make you more confident. Come along with your phone, tablet or laptop.
The Crochet Class is now meeting at the Jenner Centre on Thursdays from 4pm – 6pm. This is a great opportunity to learn a new craft. Crochet has moved on from lace doilies and there are many more patterns around to tempt you from your knitting needles.
It’s a year now since we held CPR training. You might never need these skills but it’s important to keep them up to date. We’ll be arranging refresher sessions in the next few months. It would also be useful to learn some simple first aid which we can also arrange with the Red Cross. Let us know what you think.
We’re always checking the whereabouts of the defibrillators around Brechin and Edzell. Although most come up on the site defibfinder.uk There are also defibrillators at the Mechanics and Glebe Park which are accessible all the time but do not seem to be registered. There’s also a defibrillator in the clubhouse at Brechin Golf Club which is only available when the clubhouse is open.
Since these defibrillators are not registered with that website, it means that if you have to call 999 you won’t be advised of the location of these, will not be given the code and will be unable to access the machine. It’s really important for this potentially lifesaving equipment to be available. If you are responsible for one of these three machines, please make sure that they are registered.
We’re always keen to know what else you would find helpful to be included. It was suggested the other day that the route of the town bus would be of interest. Would it be helpful to add the taxi numbers to the list? We’d need to check with the taxi people that they’d be happy for us to do this. We’ve had a number of interesting contributions so if you’d like to see yourself in print we’d love to hear from you.
We’ve been successful in being awarded some funding specifically for DD9 Connections from DC Thomson’s charitable wing which means we can expand in content and/or the print run. If you feel there are other areas where we should be distributing copies or even doing a small delivery service please let us know.
