The Jenner Centre- DD9 Connections Issue No 26

,

The recent hot weather has made the Footcare room very warm. However Joyce has discovered how the air conditioning works, making it much more comfortable for herself and her clients. The Footcare will be moving from Mondays to Wednesdays from the beginning of August – existing clients already have their follow-up appointments for Wednesdays. Joyce can now arrange long weekends for herself without planning 3 months in advance! After nearly 4 years of providing a much appreciated service it’s time for her to free up her Mondays.

Other Monday events will stay in place. The Chit & Chat with Coffee will continue and in spite of some ideas put forward for developing the coffee morning, most folk are very happy with the way it runs at present. There’s always room for a few more people so come along and join in the chat.

Chris’s Board

Callum, Locality Development Worker, will be there on most Mondays from 10am – 1pm so if you have any questions about volunteering and all that that involves you can drop in to have a chat with him.

The Arts and Crafts Group continues on Mondays 1.30 -3.30pm. Although mostly knitting and crochet projects there’s the opportunity for other crafts including water colour painting. Come along to learn and share skills.

Hearing aid batteries and servicing continues on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12midday. Joyce and Alison are happy to advise how and where to access services they are unable to provide themselves.

On the first Tuesday of the month, a Dementia Carers group now takes place from  2 – 3.30pm. This group, run by Rosemary Moncur from Alzheimer Scotland, supports carers and families of those with dementia whether they are at home or are now in a  care home. The group has increased in numbers even in this short time and new members will be made very welcome.

The monthly Cancer Support Group on the 3rd Tuesday of the month has a number of folk at different stages along the cancer journey and is proving to be valuable as a  networking group. We’ve recently heard from someone who is now cancer free and still feels the benefit of coming to this group. So whatever stage you are at, please be aware that others in the group could benefit from your experience.

A machine sewing group has just started on Wednesday afternoons from 1.30 – 3.30pm. Folk bring their own sewing machines and as in all of our groups, the chat, sharing of information and support is so valuable.

Digital Skills training will be available for 3 sessions on Thursday afternoons at the end of July – see item elsewhere in this issue. If you’re unsure of IT stuff and need some help to learn and feel more confident then these are the sessions for you.

Friday morning is the time to join the 8 – 10 folk at the Seated Exercise class from 10.30 – 11ish. Stay on a little longer and enjoy a cuppie and a blether. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the group as each session is different and you work at your own pace. Feedback from the group shows they have developed a bit more flexibility and one of them can now play golf two days in a row!

There’s been some response to the suggestion of First Aid classes so we plan to arrange some sessions and hope people will want to sign up just as happened with the CPR training. Please get in touch with your thoughts.

We’ll be holding our annual Macmillan coffee morning later this summer/autumn so watch out for details. You’ve raised considerable sums for Macmillan in the past couple of years and we hope we can all build on that this year.
