The Jenner Centre – DD9 Connections Issue No 25

,

We’ve had a busy few weeks at the Jenner Centre.

We’ve had increasing numbers at the ChitChat with Coffee, the Arts & Crafts Group and at the Seated Exercise session. The monthly Cancer Support group offers valuable information, support and friendship to those attending these sessions.  Alzheimer Scotland begins their Carers’ session on Tuesday, 3rd June from 2pm – 3.30pm and will continue on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

We also hosted a session for Angus Council’s Skills and Employability service in April where people are helped with writing CVs, completing application forms and interview techniques. Applications are made through Angus Council.

Angus Small Repairs held their Brechin Roadshow in the Jenner Centre which was well attended. There were representatives from the Soup Initiative offering lovely soup to take away (regardless of the hot day!) NHS Falls Prevention Service, Angus Carers, Andy’s Man Club, Angus Alive, and Paths for All as well as Angus Small Repairs themselves. We have retained information from these organisations so if you missed the Roadshow we can still help.

A number of people have benefited from Angus Small Repairs since we printed information about this service. It was the difficulty in finding someone to do those small jobs which prompted us to promote their service. Although they offer free services from time to time, with a suggestion of a donation, it’s worth making you aware that normally there is a cost involved and for very small jobs you might feel this is quite expensive. When you contact them it’s always wise to check how much the job will cost.

Callum Troup has been recently appointed as the Locality Development Worker for Brechin, Edzell and Montrose and is basing himself on Monday mornings at the Jenner Centre.

Digital skills training for the over 65s and those with disabilities. Do you need help with your emails, want to order an online shop, need to know how to stay safe from scams? We’ll be offering group sessions for up to 10 people and also one-to-one sessions if this is preferred. These will not be drop-ins so let us know if you’re interested, with preferred days and times.
